I Didn't Shave Either...
I didn’t shave either.
Or maybe I did - never say never - but it’s very unlikely. Shaving a personal choice - one that we all get to make for ourselves. I personally don’t like shaving, but you do you!
Here’s the thing about massage. The best, most effective and relaxing massage treatment is the one where you feel the most safe and the most comfortable. Leg hair and all.
Most registered massage therapists (RMTs) are pretty down to earth and non-judgemental. Body stuff is just a part of our everyday lives. We tend to think that bodies are pretty cool. It’s a professional interest.
As an RMT, it is my professional duty and privilege to honour that wondrous gift and care for not just the body but the human being living inside of that body.
Here's what your RMT wants from you - BE COMFORTABLE. BE YOURSELF.
Running behind on your laundry? We don’t mind if you wear your “last resort” underwear. In fact, some people go without during treatment. We can accommodate what you are most comfortable with.
Feeling a bit hairy? Not a problem! It doesn’t affect the massage. We just use more oil or lotion. That hugging type of thing we do at the end of the massage is as much a way to settle the muscles as it is to dab up any excess oil.
Embarrassed by scars, tattoos, moles, etc.? We get to know you by them. They tell the story of your life and are a part of the beautiful tapestry that is your amazing body.
Bras, shorts, pants on or off? It’s your call. We’ve got all kinds of ways to work around and over clothing.
Did your tummy grumble or the worst fear imaginable, you let out a fart?! It happens. Honestly, it’s probably because your RMT has done a fantastic job of relaxing your body. Releasing gas can be a way that we know we are doing our job well.
So, next time you want to apologize to your RMT about that body stuff or feel awkward about wanting to keep your bra on - go ahead! It’s very Canadian of you but just know this, it’s all good!
